Opening the conference will be Ms. Nikki Giovanni wo is leaving quite te legacy ere on earth with her poetry, her teaching, and her activism. The following day workshops will be hosted, and there you will begin taking steps towards leaving behind a greater legacy for yourself. That Saturday evening there will be a charity concert co-sponsored with W.O.R.D. (Writers Organizing Realistic Dialect) benefitting Women in Transition. And to cap it all off we will be having a Women of Color BBQ Sunday afternoon, to relax, and reflect over the weekend\\\'s events. Hope you enjoy!
Here\\\'s a list of our workshops and the descriptions:
“Paint Me Like I Am”
“I think the possibility of recreating our-
selves is in our hands…We owe it to ourselves to recreate ourselves and find a different if not better way to live”
When an artist paints a portrait, they use different colors, textures, shapes, and shades but in the end it all comes together to make that person they are painting who they are. Who are you? I am whoever I want to be.
“Ego Tripping (there may be a reason why)”
“I am so perfect so divine so ethereal so surreal I cannot be comprehended except by my permission”
Egos often get in the way of things. They have the potential to build barriers and create borders as well as prevent relationships from being established. But there’s nothing wrong with carrying your own sense of pride in your accomplishments and achievements.
“All I Gotta Do”
“All I gotta do is sit and wait if I can learn how”
Time flies, we feel rushed, stressed, and worn out. There’s so much to do, and so little time. If only we just took some time to sit still, relax, and learn how to not do.
“Life Cycles”
“Sadness is not an unusual state
for the black woman
or writers”
In life we go through cycles emotionally, physically, and mentally. We would think that after experiencing something the first time we’d learn from it and move on but that’s not the case at all. We have to escape the cycle.
“Choices”
“When I can\\\'t express what I really feel
I practice feeling what I can express”
We’ve all made some difficult decisions, some that we would consider wrong, and some that we would consider the best we’ve ever made. Surely, none of those decisions were easy, but every choice has its benefits and consequences.
“I’m Not Lonely”
“Now that you\\\'re gone I don\\\'t dream
and no matter what you think
I\\\'m not lonely”
Hurt happens. Heartbreak happens. But your past does not dictate your future. Accept the past for what it was, embrace your present for what it is, and make your future what you want it to be.
